Conductor

Thanks to his remarkable talent, he has quickly imposed himself on the international scene as one of most appreciated Italian conductor of his generation.

His first important success came in 2001, when he gained outstanding approvals both from the critic and the audience at the Rossini Opera Festival di Pesaro conducting Il viaggio a Reims. From then on, he has led acclaimed performances at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma (Don Pasquale), Teatro San Carlo di Napoli (Il turco in Italia, Rigoletto and Il socrate immaginario), Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo (Ugo, conte di Parigi), Opéra de Rennes (Giovanna d’Arco), Opéra Comique de Paris (Le Comte Ory), Opéra Wallonie a Liège (Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor and Così fan tutte), Festival Rossini in Wildbad (Ciro in Babilonia and L’occasione fa il Ladro), Wexford Opera Festival (Maria di Rohan).

Antonino Fogliani is a frequent guest conductor of such orchestras as Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Orchestra of the Opera in Rome, Orchestra of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Orchestra of the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli, Orchestra Sinfonica of the Fondazione Toscanini in Parma, Orchestra Regionale Toscana in Florence, Orchestra Filarmonica of the Teatro “V. Bellini” in Catania, Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala, “I Pomeriggi Musicali” in Milan, Spanish orchestras of La Coruña, Tenerife and Castilla y Léon, Orchestra of the Teatro Municipal de Santiago del Chile, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Orchestre de Bretagne, Orchestra of the Grand Théâtre de Reims and Württembergische Philharmonie in Reutlingen.

He opened the 2011/12 season conducting Aida at the Teatro Regio di Parma and at the Teatro Valli di Reggio Emilia.
Among his future plans are Aida at the Teatro Comunale di Modena and at the Houston Grand Opera, L’amico Fritz at the Tchaikowsky Hall in Moscow, Lucia di Lammermoor at the Nationale Reisopera in Enschede and at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, La traviata at the Opéra de Montréal and at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania, Maria Stuarda at the Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo and Otello di Rossini at the De Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp.

He opened the 2010/11 season conducting Maria Stuarda with the Orchestra Toscanini di Parma in Piacenza, followed by Semiramide at the Opéra de Montpellier, Lucia di Lammermoor at the Houston Grand Opera and at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, I lombardi alla prima crociata in St. Gallen, Il turco in Italia at the Festival Rossini in Wildbad, I Masnadieri at the Festival de Radio France in Montpellier.
The 2009/10 season has seen him conducting L’elisir d’amore at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, a symphonic concert in Moscow with the State Philharmonic Society, L’italiana in Algeri at the Opera de Mahón in Menorca, La bohème at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari and at the Opéra de Montecarlo, Il diluvio universale in St. Gallen and La Cenerentola at the Rossini in Wildbad Belcando Opera Festival.

The past seasons has seen him conducting Maria Stuarda at the Teatro alla Scala, Amica and Mosè in Egitto at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Lucia di Lammermoor in St. Gallen, Oberto, conte di San Bonifacio at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Rigoletto at the Novaya Opera di Mosca, Maria Stuarda at the Teatro Massimo “V. Bellini” di Catania, La Cenerentola at the Teatro Calderon in Valladolid, Otello, Il Signor Bruschino and La sposa di Messina at the Festival Rossini in Wildbad, Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo and at the Teatro dell’Opera in St. Gallen, Anna Bolena and Lucia di Lammermoor on a Japan tour and Gianni Schicchi at the Teatro Piccini di Bari. He also conducted on the podium of the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen at the Westfalenpark in Dortmund, of the Moscow State Philharmonic Society at the Ciakovsky Hall in Moscow and of Württembergische Philharmonie of Reutlingen.

He recorded Ugo Conte di Parigi for Dynamic, Il marito disperato by Cimarosa (Bongiovanni), Mosè in Egitto, Ciro in Babilonia and Otello by Rossini, La sposa di Messina by Vaccaj (Naxos), Lucia di Lammermoor (DVD Dynamic), Maria Stuarda (DVD Arthaus Musik)

Born in Messina in 1976, after graduating in piano at the “Giovanni Battista Martini” Conservatory in Bologna, he took his degree in conducting at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatory of Milan with Vittorio Parisi. He has later specialised at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Franco Donatoni, Ennio Morricone and Gianluigi Gelmetti, with whom he has worked as assistant during several operatic and concert productions in Italy and abroad (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Regio di Torino, Covent Garden, Münchner Philharmoniker).

Music director at Rossini in Wildbad Belcanto Opera Festival in Bad Wildbad, he is also teaching Orchestral conducting at the “G. Tartini” Conservatory in Trieste.
