February 22, 23 and 25 - premiere performances of the Rimsky-Korsakov opera "The Tsar's Bride"Mass media about the TheatreThe recording of the ballet "Jewels" will be transmitted in 24 cities around Russia and 3 cities in Kazakhstan on Sunday, February 16Svetlana Zakharova: "I am coming to Sochi once again before the Olympic Games close" The prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre and Teatro alla Scala, who starred in the part of Natasha Rostova at the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, shared her impressions with DARIA EGOROVA. - Were there many rehearsals? - I arrived in Sochi two weeks prior to the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. But we had been rehearing the ball scene for several months; I guess, we started in the beginning of December. As far as I understood, the Opening Ceremony was designed mainly for the TV audience. Those spectators who sat in the first rows missed a bit of what was happening on the stage, as opposed to those who sat higher up or watched the TV broadcast. On the other hand, there were special monitors at the stadium, so it was possible to see everything in detail. - Have you been to Sochi before? How did you like the city? - I have, but I was a little girl back then; my mother and I came here to a resort about fifteen years ago. The city as I remembered it was completely different. People seemed different as well. Today the atmosphere here is festive, even though everyone is doing his/her own job. The city is very clean, there are many volunteers who are ready to assist with anything, there also is a lot of security at the important venues, and they all are very polite… - Were there a lot of security guards? - Yes, lots and lots. It is not like they are easy to spot, but we could feel they were there all the time. - Have you ever done any winter sports? - No, I do not do winter sports, because they all are very high-injury sports. But I watch figure skating, for example; I would say that our sportsmen got their well- deserved gold medal this year. I will also cheer for our hockey team. During the Olympic Games I am trying to follow all events. Usually I do not have enough time, though. - On February 22, one day before the Closing Ceremony, you will participate in the Ballet Gala that will take place in Sochi. What should we expect? - Unfortunately, I do not know the details yet. All I can say is that I will dance a fragment from the ballet "Giselle" together with Sergei Polunin from the Stanislavsky Music Theatre.Newsletter Sochi mass media: International ballet stars performed together in Sochi A cultural Olympiad is being held in Sochi together with the Olympic Games. Fauré), "Rubies" (to the music by I. Stravinsky) and "Diamonds" (to the music by P. Tchaikovsky). In the first part ballerinas are dressed in long tunics, in the second - in very short skirts and in the third - in classical white tutus. There is the romantic ballet, the 20 century ballet and classical ballet. Balanchine himself liked to talk about the content of his ballets that did not have plots in the most simple words; according to the choreographer, the first part of "Jewels" is, "perhaps, a hint about France, the country of elegance, comfort, fashion and perfumes". The second part "represents America". The last part of the ballet is a homage to the Russian Imperial Ballet. The sub-text of the choreography is about three styles, three great ballet schools - the French, the American and the Russian.
